Hair Care Instructions:

Washing

The process of washing your hair before installation removes the initial steam pattern (of our non-raw hair textures) and reveals the hair’s natural pattern. (For your convenience, our Kinky Curly and Deep Wave extensions have already been co-washed with conditioner.) We recommend following these steps closely for the first wash, for normal maintenance of your hair, and to preserve the life of your hair extensions or wigs.

**Please note: minimal shedding of loose strands are normal**

  1. Fill sink with warm water (DO NOT use hot water as this will dry out the hair).
  2. Squeeze a dime-size amount of sulfate-free shampoo or co-wash (sulfates will dry out the hair) into the water or directly on the hair .
  3. Submerge the bundle of hair or the wig in water until completely saturated. Be sure to only submerge the hair and do no get the headband of your headband wig or the lace of your lace wig wet during this step.
  4. Squeeze excess water off of the hair.
  5. Repeat the process of submerging and squeezing excess water until hair is completely washed.
  6. On the wet hair, apply a generous amount of conditioner to the length of the bundle paying special attention to the ends.
  7. Divide the bundle or wig into 3-4 sections so the strands are evenly coated with conditioner.
  8. Run your fingers throughout each section, finger-detangling as you would your natural hair.
  9. A wide tooth comb can also be used in place of fingers for a more thorough detangling.
  10. When using a wide tooth comb to detangle, be sure to hold the bundle by the base while combing from the ends first and then up to the root.
  11. After detangling as desired, rinse hair with cold water and wring out the excess.
  12. Hang the hair to drip dry.

Detangling

Straight/Wavy: Using a wide tooth comb or paddle brush, hold onto the base of the bundle. Begin detangling from the ends and work your way up the weft.

Curly: Using a hair clip, divide the hair into sections for easy manageability. Beginning with your first section, spray the hair with water until damp, and apply a generous amount of conditioner. Using a wide tooth comb or paddle brush, hold onto the base of the bundle. Begin detangling from the ends and work your way up the weft. Clip the finished section and repeat on a new section of hair.

LUMA Tip: To achieve maximum curl definition, use a Denman® brush.

Styling

Straight: Gently brush out tangles using a paddle brush. Liberally apply heat protectant spray and brush it through. Flat iron the hair in small sections using the “comb and chase” method for the best results. Seal the hair with silicone based anti-frizz serum for added shine.

LUMA Tip: Set your hair at night by wrapping it, using flex rods, or add pin curls with bobby pins to avoid using heat daily.

Wavy/Curly: For curly and wavy textures, in a spray bottle mix 1 part conditioner to 3 parts water. Spray the mixture onto the hair. Using a Denman® brush, brush and scrunch the hair in sections. Let the hair air-dry or use a diffuser to save time.

LUMA Tip: Try flat twisting or braiding your hair for a totally new curl pattern after you take them down! To reset the natural curls, use a spray bottle or do a complete co-wash.

Dyeing

LUMA hair extensions and wigs are 100% human virgin hair, so you have the option of dyeing or bleaching the hair. We suggest getting the hair professionally dyed by an experienced colorist especially when going lighter. Please note: Dyeing may shorten the lifespan of the hair and cause damage if not done correctly.

Night Routine

To lessen tangling while you’re sleeping, sectioning your hair into two parts and braiding each section is recommended. For curly and wavy textures, adding a small amount of styling cream and braiding the hair at night will give the hair a nice wave in the morning.

LUMA Tip: To further avoid tangles or dryness, sleep with a satin bonnet or scarf to protect your hair.

Storage

After un-installing your extensions or wig, wash each bundle or section of hair making sure to remove any product build-up. Condition and detangle the hair. Let your bundles or wig air-dry preferably on a pant hanger. Once completely dried, roll each weft of extensions into a bundle and secure it with a seamless elastic hair tie. Store the hair in the provided pouch. For wigs, wrap with the provided hair net and store in the pouch, or keep it on a mannequin if you're planning to wear it again soon.
